			<title>FOR SALE 1933 Dodge for restoration - Sold !</title>
			<link>http://www.weddingsetc.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=32&amp;Itemid=2</link>
			<description>

SOLD

Tuesday, 2nd October 2007. Big Day Out!

Whew... I did one of those spontaneous things in life. In response to an advert for a 1932 Dodge I went to Kokstad (2,5hrs drive from Durban) Slightly premeditated in that I didn't want to make more than one trip to Kokstad so I arranged that the vehicle towing guys would meet me there. Which kind of implies that since I would be paying them anyway, they may as well take something home for me? Yes there is madness all around and a seemingly great abundance in my vicinity.

So here it is. I'm not entirely certain what I've gotten myself into but hopefully in a couple of years this car will regain it's former splendour and become available for hire. There are quite a few differences from the 1930 Dodge DD namely and to mention the most obvious:-

	Front and rear bumpers-Single bar (one piece) with middle 3rd bent out

	Front Grill and hood ornament

	front fenders/wheel arches
	Metal framed body

	Wheels (wire spokes and solid rim ..relief) and double sidemounts (spare wheels)
	Dual trumpet horns (Deluxe model)
	Double tail lights (Deluxe model)

Thanks to the guys on the aaca forums we've established that it is in fact a 1933 Dodge DP Deluxe.

Actually there is not much at all in common with the earlier Dodges ( Thanks to Jim Cook DBC Technical Advisor for 1933 Dodge DP Deluxe)

			<title>First Car Radio</title>
			<link>http://www.weddingsetc.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=29&amp;Itemid=2</link>
			<description>First car radio?

After a bit of Googling I'll simply paste various results here in no particular order. It's an interesting topic for me anyway. Here goes..

The first car radio on record was fitted to the passenger door of a Ford Model T by 18-year-old George Frost, President of Lane High School radio club, Chicago, and was in use by May 1922.

The first commercially produced car radio was the Philco Transitone, introduced by the Philadelphia Storage Battery Company in 1927. By 1933 there were claimed to be 100,000 cars fitted with radio in the USA. (New Shell Book of Firsts)

The Marconi V2A (cabinet radio) was mounted on the running boards by some enterprising motorists in the early twenties.

			<title>Last can of Caltex Delo 600 Multigrade?</title>
			<link>http://www.weddingsetc.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=27&amp;Itemid=2</link>
			<description>
 A Noisy gearbox and tired suspension springs in the Dodge prompted me to find out what was the correct oil for the gearbox and diff. So I contacted the Technical advisor at The Dodge Brothers Club, David Hochhalter who advised that 600 W was the correct oil to use. After a few helpless telephone calls I realised it was not going to be so easy to get this type of oil here in South Africa. (Well at least not from the local garages or spares place) A day went by ... So I phoned one man who I knew might help... Tiny Maritz.

When I phoned I could hear he was busy... so I asked where he was...and it just so happened he was in Pinetown standing at the counter of Brian's Auto Spares. To cut a not so long story even shorter it turned out that they had one old can of oil that had been lying under the counter for a number of years and Walla here it now sits. I couldn't help thinking that it may very well be one of the last cans of Caltex Delo 600 that was/ are lingering in dark and forgotten recesses of various well established Auto Spares outlets. Umm..that and the fact that I wanted to initiate a news section on my website prompted this apparently meaningless article. To make this less meaningless here's a few pics (Yikes ...get a life Douglas!)

I have not yet confirmed that this is the correct oil to use so I'll contact Caltex SA and publish the results in a later article. (No need to hold your breath right?)

In the meantime you can look at How to read an oil can (part 1) (http://www.wearcheck.com/literature/techdoc/WZA007.htm)

and How to read an oil can (part 2) (http://www.wearcheck.com/literature/techdoc/WZA008.htm)
